Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about our robotics systems, integration process, and project capabilities.
BEC Robotics develops and integrates robotic automation systems for industrial, medical and entertainment applications. Every solution is engineered to meet the customer's process requirements, combining proven industrial robots and automation technologies from established partners with BEC's own software, robotic platforms and specialized products when appropriate. The company delivers complete systems from concept and engineering through commissioning and lifecycle support. The company is organised into four families — BEC Industry, BEC Medical, BEC Entertainment, and BEC Service.
BEC evaluates processes based on repeatability, cycle time, payload requirements, and production volume. Tasks involving machine tending, material handling, palletizing, quality inspection, and intralogistics are typically strong candidates. BEC conducts feasibility studies to design the right automation approach for each client.
BEC Robotics automates a wide range of environments including CNC machine shops, automotive assembly, semiconductor fabs (cleanrooms), electronics manufacturing, warehousing, intralogistics, and medical sterile supply departments. Both greenfield (new facilities) and brownfield (existing facilities) are supported.
Yes. BEC Robotics specialises in brownfield automation — integrating mobile platforms (AMRs, AGVs, and the MRP) into existing facilities without major structural changes. Solutions are designed to work around existing layouts and infrastructure, with AGVs that can be deployed within hours.
Key success factors include clear production objectives, selecting the right processes for automation, strong integration with existing PLC, MES and ERP systems, thorough safety planning, operator involvement and ongoing support after commissioning. BEC works closely with customers throughout the project lifecycle to develop solutions that fit existing production environments, support operators during the transition and ensure automation becomes a reliable part of daily operations.
Timelines vary by complexity. A standard AGV or mobile robot deployment may take a few months. Larger custom systems with multi-machine integration and software development can take 6–18 months. BEC provides detailed project plans and milestone tracking throughout.
BEC develops robotic automation solutions for manufacturers and suppliers across a wide range of industries. Typical applications include semiconductor, electronics, food and beverage, medical technology, logistics and other production environments where automation improves capacity, consistency and process reliability.
Key differences:
Fixed Robot Cell — Stationary robotic system designed for a dedicated process at a single workstation. Best suited for high-volume production with short cycle times.
Mobile Robot Platform (MRP) — An AGV transports the robot platform between fixed docking stations, where the robot is supplied with power and communication through the docking interface. One robot can serve multiple machines, making the system ideal for machines with higher cycle times, higher payload and reach requirements, reducing the number of robots needed compared to fixed cells.
Autonomous Mobile Platform – A robot is permanently mounted on an AGV, creating a fully battery-powered robotic system that can operate at different locations without docking stations. Integrated safety scanners monitor the operating area, enabling flexible automation in existing production facilities with minimal modifications. The platform is available with both industrial robot and collaborative robot configurations to suit different applications.
AMRs transport materials, tools, and robotic systems between workstations without fixed infrastructure. Manufacturers can adapt production layouts, increase equipment utilisation, and scale operations more efficiently — without rebuilding the factory floor.
Yes. Brownfield retrofitting is a core competency of BEC Robotics. Their AGVs, AMRs, and MRP systems are specifically designed to operate within existing production environments with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
BEC robotic systems use industry-standard communication protocols including OPC-UA, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, and REST APIs. BEC's VDA5050 interface integrates AGVs from multiple manufacturers, supporting fleet management, vehicle monitoring, and production planning with WMS, MES, and ERP platforms.
BEC Robotics combines robotic system integration with its own software and product development. Solutions integrate robots and automation technologies from leading manufacturers alongside BEC-developed platforms such as FABMOVER, the Mobile Robot Platform (MRP), exacure and guidoo where they best fit the application. The company also specialises in brownfield automation, machine communication and customer-specific engineering.
Yes. BEC designs scalable solutions that can start with a single robot or AGV and expand to full fleet deployments as production demands grow. This phased approach reduces upfront investment and allows manufacturers to validate ROI before extending automation.
BEC Robotics offers custom service and maintenance packages for all BEC systems, including expert technical support, on-site service, system performance monitoring, spare parts supply, and operator training. The BEC Service family ensures optimal performance and longevity.
BEC Robotics regularly exhibits at leading international trade shows, including automatica, SEMICON trade shows and IAAPA Expo, and also participates in selected industry conferences and technical congresses. Current exhibition dates and locations are published on the BEC Robotics News page.
