Flexible Mobile Automation for Modern Manufacturing

Mobile robot systems combine autonomous mobility with industrial robotics to automate machine tending, material handling, assembly operations, and production processes. Mobile robot systems include different automation concepts. BEC differentiates between Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) for material transport, Mobile Manipulators combining an AMR with an industrial robot or cobot, and Mobile Robot Platforms (MRPs), where a robot platform is transported by an AMR and docked for stationary operation.

Unlike traditional fixed automation cells, mobile robot systems can move between machines and workstations, allowing manufacturers to deploy automation wherever it creates the greatest operational value. This makes them an ideal solution for businesses looking for adaptable automation that evolves with changing production requirements.

BEC Robotics develops and integrates complete turnkey mobile automation solutions by combining: Industrial robotics, machine integration, vision systems, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), advanced software solutions, and application-specific engineering expertise.

Where required, BEC Robotics develops application-specific mobile automation solutions to address unique production requirements, specialised manufacturing processes or challenging integration tasks.

Our engineering team evaluates the technical requirements and develops the appropriate system architecture, combining suitable robot systems, mobile platforms, software and safety concepts where standard solutions are not sufficient.

From Concept to Implementation

Understanding Your Production

Every automation project starts with understanding your production processes, operational requirements, long-term objectives and future scalability.

Based on this analysis, BEC Robotics develops an automation concept tailored to your manufacturing environment.

Complete System Integration

With more than 20 years of automation experience, BEC Robotics delivers complete turnkey automation solutions combining:

  • Robotics integration
  • Machine integration
  • Vision systems
  • Custom software development
  • Application-specific engineering

Virtual Simulation & Digital Validation

At BEC Robotics, every automation concept is developed and validated in a virtual environment before implementation begins. Using advanced simulation tools, production workflows, robot movements, material flow, and plant layouts can be visualized and optimized at an early stage. This allows potential challenges to be identified before equipment is installed, reducing project risk and ensuring all stakeholders share a common understanding of the solution.

Virtual validation supports informed decision-making throughout the engineering process and provides a solid foundation for successful project execution. Typical applications include process and workflow analysis, robot reachability studies, material flow simulation, layout validation, cycle time evaluation, automation concept development, and virtual commissioning. By validating concepts digitally before implementation, BEC Robotics helps customers reduce risk, improve efficiency, and accelerate the path to production.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about our robotics systems, integration process, and project capabilities.

A mobile manipulator combines an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) with an industrial robot or collaborative robot. It can move autonomously between workstations and perform robotic tasks such as machine tending, assembly or material handling. Unlike a fixed robot cell, a mobile manipulator can automate multiple workstations with a single robotic system.

Mobile manipulators use the same autonomous navigation technologies as AMRs, including laser scanners, 3D cameras and navigation algorithms to map their surroundings, detect obstacles and navigate safely through dynamic industrial environments. Configurable safety concepts monitor both vehicle movement and robot operation, triggering speed reduction or protective stops when people or objects enter defined safety areas.

EC develops and integrates mobile manipulator solutions for a wide range of automation tasks. The portfolio includes the BEC KMR CYBERTECH, KUKA KMR iiwa and KUKA KMR iisy, combining autonomous mobile platforms with industrial robots or collaborative robots for machine tending, material handling, assembly and inspection. For applications requiring larger industrial robots, higher payloads or stationary robot performance, BEC offers the Mobile Robot Platform (MRP) as a separate automation concept.

Mobile manipulators combine an Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) with an industrial robot or collaborative robot. The robot performs handling tasks such as machine tending, assembly and material handling, while the autonomous mobile platform transports the complete system between workstations. This enables a single robotic system to automate multiple production tasks across multiple locations.

Yes. Like AMRs, mobile manipulators use natural navigation without requiring floor markings, magnetic tape or laser reflectors in most applications. Where applications require fixed vehicle paths, guided navigation features can also be integrated. Mobile manipulators can be integrated into existing brownfield production environments with minimal structural modifications and adapted to existing production layouts.

Mobile manipulators autonomously transport parts between workstations and perform loading and unloading tasks directly at the machine. This allows one robotic system to serve multiple machines, improving machine utilisation and reducing the number of dedicated robot cells required.

Yes. BEC supports phased deployment, starting with a single mobile manipulator for the highest-priority application and expanding the system as production requirements evolve. Additional mobile manipulators can be added as automation requirements grow and operators become familiar with the new workflows.

Mobile manipulators are particularly well suited for applications including:

  • Machine tending for CNC machines and production equipment

  • Assembly and component handling

  • Material handling between production stations

  • Quality inspection and testing

  • Semiconductor and cleanroom automation

  • Laboratory and medical automation
